Afro-ADVAC

The African Advanced Vaccinology course (Afro-ADVAC) is a 10-day long course in advanced vaccinology, aimed at decision-makers in the field of vaccinology.

This biennial course is hosted near Johannesburg, South Africa by ALIVE (African Leadership in Vaccinology Expertise), University of the Witwatersrand.

Afro-ADVAC is a residential course, with in-person lectures, workshops and interactive sessions.

The course is conducted in English. No translation facilities are available.

The African Advanced Vaccinology Course (Afro-ADVAC) aims to develop expertise in vaccinology on the African continent and foster research collaboration and informed decision-making by key professional bodies on immunisation practices and policies in Africa.

The venue for Afro-ADVAC 2025 will be confirmed soon.

The Afro-ADVAC course is targeted at mid- to senior level scientists, medical professionals and public health specialists, who are involved in vaccine development, clinical trials, implementation - or management of vaccination strategies, and who have decision-making or advisory responsibilities in their region or country.

Afro-ADVAC is targeted specifically at delegates from Africa, however, applicants from other LMICs will be considered.

Afro-ADVAC 2025 will take place on 1-10 September 2025, the venue will be confirmed.

Full scholarships are available for selected LMIC delegates.

The Afro-ADVAC course attendees will have the opportunity to share experiences from their work across the region and learn from others. Videos of lectures are available for teaching purposes. After completing the course, delegates will join an ALIVE-supported network of alumni aiming to foster scientific exchange and support the development of collaborative projects.
